The Pick & Shovel Showdown

The Pick & Shovel Showdown takes place at the McDonald Sports Park in Waverley, Nova Scotia. With over 73,000 ounces of gold taken from the nearby claims, you might just want to bring some tools with you and try your luck!

This race is a one-of-a-kind format for these parts. Our goal is to encourage people to start off running and continue as long as they can or want for up to 8 hours.

There are two events in one, a 10ish km race and an 8 hour endurance event. You can run the 10K then go home to warm up or sign up for the Endurance Event and keep going for up to 8 hours!

Every competitor lines up for 10km event. When finished the 10km race those who have signed up for the 8 hour event continue going out on 6ish km laps until 8-hours is up. In the event of a tie for most laps, the person with the fastest 10km time will go home the victor.

This course is very runnable with great footing when it's not buried in snow. It's a great event and format for anyone looking to run a personal best distance in a fun and inclusive format.

We are fortunate to be hosted by The Cheema Aquatics Club, giving us a great location to offer a place to warm up and enjoy our generous buffet of delicious food.

The trail system is maintained by the Waverley Amateur Athletics Association (WWWW). For more information about the WAAA and the trail system please visit the WAAA website or Facebook page.
