The Pick & Shovel Showdown

The Pick & Shovel Showdown takes place at the McDonald Sports Park in Waverley, Nova Scotia. With over 73,000 ounces of gold taken from the nearby claims, you might just want to bring some tools with you and try your luck!

This race is a one-of-a-kind format for these parts. Our goal is to encourage people to start off running and continue as long as they can or want for up to 8 hours.

There are two events in one, a 10ish km race and an 8 hour endurance event. Your time for the first two laps are used in case of a tie-breaker for the most laps run in 8 hours. You can choose to go hard from the start or run at your own pace, strategy could pay off in form of a win.

Every competitor lines up for a timed 10km event which is two laps of the park. In the event of a tie for most laps, the person with the fastest 10km time will go home the victor.

This course is very runnable with great footing when it's not buried in snow. It's a great event and format for anyone looking to run a personal best distance in a fun and inclusive format.

We are fortunate to be hosted by The Cheema Aquatics Club, giving us a great location to offer a place to warm up and enjoy our generous buffet of delicious food.

The trail system is maintained by the Waverley Amateur Athletics Association (WWWW). For more information about the WAAA and the trail system please visit the WAAA website or Facebook page.
